On loan Chelsea player Maatsen nominated for Bundesliga Rookie of the Month

On loan Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen has been nominated for Bundesliga Rookie of the Month in his debut month.

Maatsen quickly made an impact, featuring in his first Bundesliga match against Darmstadt in less than 24 hours after joining Borussia Dortmund from Chelsea.

His contribution helped Dortmund secure a 3-0 victory in the encounter.

Stepping in for Ramy Bensebaini and Julian Ryerson, Maatsen has made a huge statement in his position as the team’s left-back.

His attacking prowess has drawn comparisons to Raphaël Guerreiro, particularly in his ability to contribute in the final third.

In only his second appearance for Dortmund, Maatsen provided an assist for his teammate Donyell Malen in a match against FC Köln.

Since his transfer from Chelsea, the 21-year-old has played in every game for Dortmund, completing the full 90 minutes in four matches.

However, he faces tough competition for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month Award for January, as Maximilian Beier from Hoffenheim and Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig are also nominated.

Simons previously won the award for December, while Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen claimed the honor for August, September, October, and November.
