Omenazu earns first Super Falcons call-up after long wait

Favour Omenazu has earned her first senior international call-up after the MK Dons Women captain was named in Nigeria’s squad for the 2028 Olympic qualifying fixtures against Comoros.

MK Dons confirmed the call-up on Monday, announcing that their captain would join Nigeria for the double-header scheduled for October 9 and 13.

Omenazu always wanted to represent Nigeria

Omenazu has never hidden her desire to play for Nigeria, describing a future Super Falcons call-up as something that would mean a great deal to her and her family.

“It would be a proud moment because that’s where I am from, that’s where my family is from,” Omenazu told AYSuga in February.

She added that representing Nigeria would allow her to give back to her heritage while contributing to the continued success of the national team.

“The interest has always been not only to play at the highest level. One of my goals is to play for my national team, represent my country and do well. I want to contribute to the success that we already have,” she said.

Omenazu is already in Nigeria’s camp in Ikenne, where she is among the players preparing for the two Olympic qualifying matches against Comoros.

Versatile midfielder gets chance to impress

The 26-year-old began her football journey with Bugbrooke St Michaels before spells with Northampton Town and Stourbridge. She later joined Leicester City WFC before establishing herself at MK Dons.

Primarily a midfielder, Omenazu has also featured at right-back and has built a reputation for her pace, strength and defensive awareness.

Her versatility has made her an important player for MK Dons, where she currently wears the captain’s armband.

Now, she has the opportunity to make her long-awaited Super Falcons debut as Nigeria begin their qualification campaign for the 2028 Olympic Games.
