Nkunku pushes for Chelsea exit as Bayern eye major swoop

Christopher Nkunku has told Chelsea he wants to leave this summer, with Bayern Munich lining up a move.

But any transfer depends on Tottenham Hotspur’s next step.

Nkunku’s move to Stamford Bridge from RB Leipzig in 2023 has failed to ignite.

Limited largely to Conference League outings, where he has scored seven goals, the 27-year-old has struggled to displace Cole Palmer in Enzo Maresca’s starting lineup.

According to CF Bayern Insider, Bayern have rekindled interest in Nkunku after backing away during the January window.

However, the German giants first need Tottenham to trigger the €50 million (£43m/$57m) permanent signing of Mathys Tel, currently on loan in North London, to free up funds.

Tel’s performances, three goals in 13 games, have left Spurs undecided about making his move permanent. Without that sale, Bayern’s pursuit of Nkunku could stall.

Nkunku remains focused on finishing the season strongly and is likely to feature in Chelsea’s Conference League semi-final clash against Djurgarden on Thursday, having remained on the bench during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Everton.

Chelsea, preparing for attacking changes in the summer, are open to offers and could sanction Nkunku’s departure if their valuation is met.
