Nigeria’s Flamingos win WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup with perfect record
Nigeria’s Flamingos have been crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup after completing a perfect tournament with a 4-0 win over Togo.
Akeem Busari’s side finished the competition with five victories from five matches after another dominant outing at the Lycée Scientifique pitch in Yamoussoukro on Sunday.

Two goals in each half ensured Nigeria ended the tournament in style and maintained their unbeaten run.
Harmony strikes twice from the spot
The Flamingos took control in the 15th minute when Kemi Adegbuyi was brought down inside the box after winning a penalty.
Captain Chidera Harmony stepped forward and calmly converted to put Nigeria ahead.
Adegbuyi was involved again 20 minutes later, winning another spot-kick after Togo conceded a second penalty.
Harmony once again accepted the responsibility and made no mistake, giving Nigeria a 2-0 advantage before half-time.
Togo managed to keep the scoreline unchanged for more than 20 minutes after the restart, but Nigeria eventually added a third in the 67th minute.
Umejiaku and Adegbuyi complete rout
Sixteen-year-old striker Oluebube Umejiaku produced one of the highlights of the match when she found the net from outside the box.
Her effort caught the Togolese goalkeeper off guard and extended Nigeria’s advantage to three goals.
Adegbuyi, who had already played a key role in winning both penalties, capped her impressive individual performance by getting on the scoresheet late in the game.
The 4-0 victory completed a remarkable campaign for the Flamingos, who opened with a 5-0 win over Niger before beating Ghana 4-2 and recording consecutive 2-0 victories against Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast.
Nigeria finished with 17 goals scored and only two conceded across their five matches.
Flamingos turn focus to World Cup
With the WAFU B title secured, Nigeria will now shift attention to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 17 to November 7, with the Flamingos drawn in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico and defending champions North Korea.
Nigeria will enter the global tournament with confidence after completing their regional campaign with a perfect record.
