Nigerian man battling sickle cell disease since birth reveals how gym workouts saved his life

A Nigerian man who has been grappling with sickle cell disease since birth has revealed how engaging in gym workouts has alleviated his condition.

Known on Twitter as @_iampoje, he has disclosed that he stumbled upon a secret method to combat the challenges of the disease by engaging in regular gym workouts, resulting in a remarkable reduction in major sickle cell crises.

Taking to his Twitter handle, @_iampoje, who is also a fitness coach and gym instructor, shared his remarkable journey that started back in 2014.

He attested that since he embarked on his fitness journey, he has been able to avoid significant sickle cell crises that once plagued his life.

This not only transformed his health but also translated to substantial savings for his family, as the need for extensive medical interventions decreased significantly.

However, he was careful to emphasize that this was not a cure for sickle cell disease, but rather a potential stepping stone toward better management.

In his words;

“I am SS. (sickle cell anemia) but ever since I started going to the gym consistently from 2014 till date I’ve never had any major crisis.

“This act of dedication saved my parents lots of money and I’m using this medium to encourage people who are SS to hit the gym for life.

“Note: This is not a cure but a stepping stone. I don’t know about everyone going through it but a few people I’ve come across with share the same experience with me.

“I’m a fitness coach and gym instructor, ever since I saw the light I’ve been consistent with my workouts. I don’t know if it’s a cure or if it works for everyone but it doesn’t necessarily stop some minor illness which I often get

“Elbow pains, back pains, chest pains and feverish body including muscle loss but i keep hitting the gym and resting adequately. It’s just a stepping stone.

“I had to fight for my life after my younger brother died from it. It was either the hospital or the gym and constant dumbbells was better than the constant drips and injections.”
