A Nigerian man, Psalms Udoye Abum, studying abroad, caused an uproar in his classroom when his Oyinbo lecturer asked him to come up with a group name and motto, to which he replied with ‘Idan.
The video, initially posted on TikTok, showcases the young Nigerian man’s witty response, leaving the lecturer both perplexed and impressed.
The moment that sparked the laughter and amazement occurred when the lecturer asked for a group name and motto for a class project.
Without hesitation, Psalms proposed ‘Idan’ as the group name.
The lecturer, unfamiliar with the term, showed a hint of confusion before Psalms added the motto, “Let the poor breathe.”
It was the motto that left the lecturer stunned. As he grasped the meaning behind the phrase, he exclaimed a heartfelt ‘wow,’ clearly impressed by the witty and humorous choice.
Idan is a trending Nigerian street slang that connotes supernatural, exceptional, wonder, glamorous and fascinating.
Tribune Online explained that it is a Yoruba word meaning “magic” or “charming”.
