NFF to negotiate with Waldrum ahead of 2024 Olympics Qualifiers

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has clarified recent reports regarding the contract of Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum.

Contrary to rumors spreading at different quarters, the NFF’s technical committee is not set to sign a one-year contract with Waldrum.

Instead, the committee has been tasked with initiating negotiations with the American coach while reserving the duration of the deal.

Waldrum who guided Nigeria to the second round of the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, expressed his desire to continue in his role until at least the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Meanwhile, NFF’s Media Director Ademola Olajire, emphasized that discussions with Waldrum are underway but that the length of the contract has not yet been determined.

He stated, “Nobody has talked about how many months/years the Falcons coach will be given. This will only be known after the technical committee’s discussions with him.”

The upcoming negotiations with Waldrum is said to be timely, as the Super Falcons prepare to face Ethiopia in the second round of qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games.

The matches are scheduled to take place between October 23 and 31, 2023. Africa will be represented by two countries in the women’s football event at the 2024 Olympic Games, to be held in Paris, France.

Recall that the Super Falcons have faced challenges in previous Olympic Games qualifiers, failing to qualify for the last three editions of the tournament.
