The naira is trading at about ₦1,330.31 to the US dollar at the official market, while the dollar is quoted around ₦1,380 buying and ₦1,385 selling in the parallel market on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) describes the NFEM rate as a volume-weighted average and the official exchange rate for the day.
In the parallel market, dealers are buying the dollar at approximately ₦1,380 and selling it for about ₦1,385, based on the latest available market quotations.
The latest official figure comes after the naira was quoted at ₦1,329.86 per dollar on Wednesday, compared with ₦1,329.15 on Tuesday. This represented a marginal movement of 71 kobo between the two sessions.
Meanwhile, the parallel-market rate remained around ₦1,385 per dollar.
The figures show that the difference between the official rate and the parallel-market selling price remains relatively limited compared with periods earlier in the year when the two markets recorded wider gaps.
At the prevailing parallel-market selling rate of ₦1,385, a person buying $100 would need about ₦138,500, while $1,000 would cost approximately ₦1.385 million.
For those selling dollars to parallel-market dealers at about ₦1,380, $100 would yield roughly ₦138,000, while $1,000 would fetch about ₦1.38 million.
Parallel-market rates are not uniform and may differ according to location, dealer, transaction size and demand and supply conditions. Quotations can also change during the day.
The naira-dollar exchange rate continues to be influenced by factors including foreign exchange liquidity, demand from importers and businesses, foreign exchange inflows and movements in Nigeria’s external reserves.
The official exchange rate remains important to individuals and businesses requiring dollars for international transactions, including imports, travel, tuition and other foreign currency obligations.
As of Thursday, September 17, 2026, the latest available figures therefore put the dollar at ₦1,330.31 at the official market, while the parallel market is around ₦1,380 to buy and ₦1,385 to sell.
