“My wife had ₦600,000 but refused to pay ₦24,000 for our daughter’s treatment” – Man reveals reason for divorce

A Nigerian man has sparked debate online after revealing why he is divorcing his wife, alleging that she refused to contribute ₦24,000 towards their daughter’s hospital treatment despite having over ₦600,000 in her bank account.
While speaking on TheJusticeCourt, the man recalled being stranded at the hospital when his daughter needed urgent medical attention but had no cash on him.
According to him, he had always taken responsibility for providing for the family, ensuring there was food and other household essentials because his job was unstable and he never wanted his wife and children to lack basic necessities.
In his words, he said:
“We were in the hospital with my daughter, and I didn’t have money. I had to wait for my brother, who wasn’t in Nigeria, to send me money. A day before, I had even struggled to send her money for food at work.”
He claimed he never thought of asking his wife for financial help because he had always handled the family’s expenses. However, he was shocked when he later discovered she had more than ₦600,000 in her account.
The man further alleged that her refusal to help with the ₦24,000 hospital bill left him heartbroken and eventually led to a confrontation.
“When I later discovered she had more than ₦600,000 in her account, I was shocked. It wasn’t even up to 24hrs she bought another phone for ₦319,000 after I seized her old one,” he added.
The story has generated mixed reactions online. While some sympathised with the man, arguing that spouses should support each other during difficult times, others believed there was more to the situation than what was shared.
The viral account has since reignited conversations about financial transparency, shared responsibilities, and trust in marriage.
