“My $800 rent covers electricity, water, gas” – Abroad-based Nigerian man compares bills in Nigeria, Canada

A Nigerian man living in Canada has compared the cost of rent and utility bills abroad with what Nigerians pay at home, claiming his monthly rent covers several household bills.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the man explained that he pays $800 monthly for his accommodation, with the amount covering his electricity, water and gas bills for the month.

He noted that the payment is made once a month and lasts until the end of the billing period, unlike what he believes many Nigerians experience with multiple expenses.
According to him, the $800 rent is equivalent to about four days of his income in Canada.
He added that some Nigerians often exaggerate the cost of living abroad when speaking with their families and friends back home, particularly when discussing monthly bills.
The man explained that after paying his rent, he does not need to make additional payments for the covered utilities during the month.
He also compared the situation with Nigeria, where he claimed people may have to pay different bills multiple times.
“Your families over here will be shouting bills as if they pay it every week,” he remarked.
The man further argued that the affordability of his utility bills was linked to the quality of governance in Canada, dismissing the idea that prayers alone determine such conditions.
He also took a swipe at Nigerians who believe claims made by pastors, mentioning Apostle Arome Osayi and accusing some pastors of being fake.
The comments have sparked discussion online, with some social media users debating the differences between household expenses in Nigeria and Canada and whether rent-inclusive utility arrangements are common across Canada.
