Messi escapes frightening car accident after jumping red light

Football icon and new Inter Miami signing Lionel Messi was nearly involved in a car accident as his vehicle jumped a red light and ran into moving traffic in the U.S. city.

The incident occurred while the Argentine footballer was driving through Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Friday, July 14.

It however seemed like it was not his fault. For starters, a fan distracted him by approaching the moving car at the intersection. He had a police escort in front and behind him with the siren on, so he likely has a license to run red lights. The incoming driver should have noticed the cop car and maneuvered accordingly.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt, as both Messi and the other driver managed to slow down before anything else happened.

TyC Sports broadcasted the video showing Messi leaving the Inter Miami training facilities aboard a luxurious white SUV.

It was almost a disastrous start to Messi’s career in Miami, with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner still not technically signed. Miami is scheduled to unveil Messi on Sunday, July 16, with the player reportedly set to make his debut on July 21 against Cruz Azul in The Leagues Cup.

Messi has been getting more accustomed to the Miami area since landing in the United States, and it’s likely he and his entourage will pay more attention to the traffic lights in the future. On Thursday, July 13, he was seen with his children at a Publix grocery store in South Beach with a variety of goods in the cart.

Lucky Charms cereal were spotted as Messi began joking with his children in the store, with his son already wearing a Hard Rock Cafe t-shirt. Messi already has a sandwich named after him at the world-famous restaurant. It was intriguingly named “Made For You by Leo Messi” meal.
