Maresca confirms Caicedo return, weighs Joao Pedro role ahead of CWC final

Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Moises Caicedo returned to full training on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.

The news boosts hopes of the midfielder featuring in the much-anticipated title clash.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference at MetLife Stadium, Maresca said:

“Moises is an important player for us. He participated in the session this morning and I hope we can have him on Sunday.”

The Ecuadorian’s availability would be a timely boost for the Blues as they prepare to face PSG in the final of the revamped 32-team FIFA Club World Cup.

Maresca also addressed the form of Joao Pedro, who scored both goals in Chelsea’s 2-0 semi-final win over Fluminense.

While the Brazilian forward has made a strong case for starting, Maresca emphasized Chelsea’s depth in attack.

“Joao is a very good player. The reason why we bought him is we think he’s going to help us against teams that defend deep, low blocks. He is very good in small spaces and has great quality.

“We have 48 hours before the final and we are lucky to be able to pick from different options. We will see who is going to play,” he added.

The Italian tactician concluded by praising the morale within the squad as they chase a second Club World Cup title.

“Right now, the mood inside the dressing room is fantastic. The players value what they have achieved.
