Liverpool smash Premier League transfer record with £116.5m Florian Wirtz signing

Liverpool completed the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a British record transfer worth £116.5 million.

The deal includes £100 million guaranteed, with a further £16.5 million in add-ons, making Wirtz the most expensive player in Premier League history.

The transfer surpasses the previous record of £115 million Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023.

Wirtz, 21, has signed a five-year contract at Anfield after undergoing a medical on Friday.

The Germany international arrives as the 2023/24 Bundesliga Player of the Year, having led Leverkusen to their first-ever league title.

He contributed 34 goals and 33 assists across the past two seasons.

“I feel very happy and very proud. I was waiting for a long time, finally it’s done,” Wirtz told Liverpool’s official website.

“I want to win everything every year. My goal is to win the Premier League again and go further in the Champions League.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has now overseen £146 million in summer signings, having already secured Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5 million and closing in on Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez for £40 million.

The Reds are also monitoring Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, and Newcastle striker Alexander Isak as potential additions.
