Labour Party to review presidential campaign council after outcry over inclusion of General who claimed #EndSARS massacre was photoshop and others

The Labour Party (LP) has announced plan to review its list of members for its presidential campaign council.

This came after an outcry following the inclusion of Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress Presidents, and retired major general of the Nigerian Army and ex-defence spokesperson, John Enenche, on the list.

General Eneche had during the 2020#EndSARS protest, said that videos of the Lekki tollgate shooting were “photoshopped.”

He said at the time;

“These videos were cropped and photoshopped. If not that I am not permitted I would have forwarded it to you. Up till this morning, I got an analyst to analyze the video and they said it was cropped and put together.”

Following the outcry that trailed the list, LP national chairman Julius Abure who read a communique at the end of the party’s expanded national working committee (NWC) meeting, held in Abuja on Thursday, October 13, said it was an error for presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to be on the campaign council.

Abure said the list will be corrected and a supplementary list will be released before the inauguration of the council.

He said;

“It is on the strength of the above that the presidential campaign council has been duly announced with representation across all states, tribes and faith.

“Labour Party hereby announces the endorsement of the campaign council. However, we acknowledge some omissions and misplacement of some names in the council.

“This will be corrected and a supplementary list released before the inauguration of the council.

“Also corrected is the erroneous inclusion of Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress members in the campaign list.

“As of the moment, we are consolidating the momentum that will help us establish a new Nigeria come May 29, 2023.

“We also further make it clear that Labour Party enjoys a robust relationship with the new campaign council.”
