“If fuel stays at ₦1,300, you’ll spend ₦2.3m yearly” – Man sparks debates comparing fuel costs under past presidents

A Nigerian man has sparked conversation after breaking down how much it would cost to buy fuel daily under different administrations, highlighting the sharp increase in recent years.
According to him, the comparison shows how the cost of living has changed across successive governments, particularly in terms of fuel expenses for individuals and businesses.
Breaking down the figures, he said:
“If you buy 5 litres of fuel every day, this is what you would spend in a year under different administrations: during former President Olusegun Obasanjo, you would spend ₦136,850.
Under late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, ₦118,625; under former President Goodluck Jonathan, ₦158,775; under former President Muhammadu Buhari, ₦355,875; and under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, if fuel continues to sell at ₦1,300 per litre, the yearly cost for 5 litres daily would rise to ₦2,372,500.”
The breakdown reflects growing concerns over rising fuel prices in Nigeria, especially following the removal of fuel subsidy, which has significantly affected transportation and operational costs nationwide.
He concluded by questioning how much profit companies can realistically make when such huge amounts are spent on fuel alone.
