‘If Boniface returns, deal will be over’ – Leverkusen chief warns Milan

Victor Boniface’s proposed move to AC Milan has collapsed, with reports from Germany confirming the Rossoneri have pulled out due to concerns over the striker’s injury record.
The Nigeria international was in Italy for medicals over the weekend but is now expected to return to Germany.
Milan sporting director Igli Tare had admitted on Saturday that while Boniface’s talent was unquestionable, the club was carefully evaluating his fitness before making a final decision.
“We knew that he had problems in the past, we are evaluating everything as planned with regards to the health and fitness of the player.
“His qualities are undoubted. We are just trying to make the right decision for this situation,” Tare said.
However, Bayer Leverkusen chief Simon Rolfes confirmed to BILD that the deal is effectively over. “If he comes back (to Leverkusen), the Milan deal will be over. It’s no big secret,” Rolfes stated.
Milan’s hesitation reportedly stemmed from Boniface’s medical history, which includes two ACL injuries on the same knee during his time at Bodo/Glimt, as well as recurring muscular problems that sidelined him for parts of the last two seasons at Leverkusen.
BILD adds that the striker underwent four separate medical checks in Italy.
This collapse comes despite both clubs having reached a full agreement: a €5m loan fee with a €24m option to buy.
Boniface will now rejoin Leverkusen unless another club steps in before the transfer window closes.
