“I told him…” Lady seeks advice as man who cancelled wedding over her absence at his father’s funeral returns

A social media user has narrated how a lady’s engagement collapsed and later escalated into repeated family interventions after she was unable to attend her father-in-law’s funeral due to work restrictions, leading to the cancellation of her wedding and ongoing disputes.

The woman shared her account, explaining that her wedding was originally scheduled for March but was disrupted following a family bereavement and workplace limitations that prevented her from travelling.

Funeral absence and workplace constraints

According to her narration, her father-in-law passed away in November, with his burial held in December, just weeks after his death.

She said she genuinely wanted to attend the funeral but could not obtain leave from her employer due to strict operational policies.

“I was unable to secure leave from my employer,” she stated, adding that the notice period was too short and her job contract restricted leave during peak periods.

She further explained that she had informed her fiancé of the situation and also contributed financially towards the funeral arrangements. Initially, she said, he appeared to understand her circumstances.

However, the situation reportedly changed after a call from her mother-in-law.

Family pressure and rising tension

The woman recounted that her mother-in-law insisted she must be present at the funeral if she truly intended to join the family.

“She told me that if I truly wanted to be part of their family, I had to be present at her husband’s funeral,” she said, adding that her explanation was abruptly dismissed during the call.

Shortly afterwards, her fiancé allegedly confronted her, questioning her absence and comparing it to a hypothetical situation involving her own father.

“if it were my father, wouldn’t you find a way to attend?” he asked, according to her account.

She responded that circumstances differed due to employment restrictions. It was then, she said, that the relationship took a decisive turn.

“That was when he said the words that changed everything, he said no presence, no wedding.”

Wedding cancellation and emotional fallout

The woman stated that she initially believed her fiancé was speaking out of grief, but the cancellation of the wedding later became final.

Despite attempts by her family to intervene, she said the relationship could not be salvaged.

“My family attempted to intervene, but every effort was shut down,” she said, adding that her father eventually advised her to move on.

She described the period that followed as emotionally difficult but said she gradually began to heal and accept the end of the relationship.

Unexpected reconciliation attempt

According to her account, she was later contacted on May 20th by her ex-fiancé, who reportedly suggested reconciling and rescheduling the wedding.

She said his comments were unexpected and troubling, especially his expectation regarding how she should have handled the earlier conflict.

“He said he had expected better from me as a future wife,” she recounted, adding that he believed she should have continued appealing to his family.

She further stated that he had already fixed a new wedding date for August and expected preparations to begin immediately.

The woman, however, said she rejected the proposal outright.

“I told him I was no longer interested and that I was done with the relationship.”

Continued pressure and family intervention

She alleged that her ex-fiancé refused to accept her decision and insisted she had no right to end the relationship.

In her words, “he was not done and that I had no right to say I was done.”

Following the confrontation, she said she blocked him, but he later visited her family home with the bride price and previously rejected marriage items.

Her father reportedly informed him that the family no longer considered her available for marriage and asked him to leave.

Despite this, she claimed the visits continued, alongside repeated calls from his mother.

Legal concerns and request for advice

The woman concluded that the repeated visits and continued pressure were becoming distressing and unwanted.

She said she is now considering legal action due to what she described as persistent contact and refusal to respect her decision.

“At this point, I am beginning to feel that there is something deeper behind their persistence,” she said, adding that she feels her consent and choices are being disregarded.

She has since asked for public advice on how to handle the situation moving forward.
