“I paid her ₦250k monthly for a PA job” – Mariam Oyakhilome recounts betrayal by family friend
Popular content creator and Influencer Mariam Oyakhilome has recounted how employing a family friend as her personal assistant (PA) allegedly ended badly despite paying her ₦250,000 monthly.
Taking to her Instagram page, Mariam explained that she initially refused to hire the lady because she preferred employing people she did not know. However, after seeking her father’s approval, she offered her a ₦150,000 monthly salary.

“This is why I don’t like employing people I know. One of my family friends reached out and said she wanted to do the job. I said no, I cannot employ you because I know you.
I want somebody I don’t know, so that I can hold them accountable. I spoke to my dad, and he told me to employ her so she could support herself. So, I put her on a ₦150,000 salary,” she said.
Mariam revealed that she later added cooking to the woman’s duties after discovering she could cook, increasing her salary by ₦100,000 to ₦250,000 monthly, providing food and her transport.
She recalled that the woman later claimed she had been bitten by a scorpion and was admitted to hospital. Days later, she disclosed that another company had contacted her over a CV she submitted before getting the PA job.
Mariam then ended their working relationship, later learning that the company had rejected the woman because of her age.
According to Mariam, the woman’s mother subsequently contacted her, asking her to support the family and pay her daughter’s school fees.
“I give her food, then I still pay her ₦250K. Now the mother is calling me to support them and pay her school fees. If na una, una go pay that kind thing? No be see finish be that one?” she added.
Her account has sparked conversations online about the challenges of employing friends and family.
