“I have screws in my mouth” – Osimhen confirms wearing mask throughout his career

Super Eagles’ star Victor Osimhen has said he will be masked throughout his playing career due to a surgery that left two screws inside his mouth.

The Napoli sensation confirmed this during an interview with Brila FM recently, emphasizing the threat of not playing with it.

When quizzed if he will ever stop wearing the mask, Osimhen said no, because “I had two screws that passed through my jaw inside my mouth.

“The last match I played, I think against Cagliari, when I headed the ball, I had blood in my face, because the goalkeeper hit my face, even with the mask.

“So, it’s dangerous for me without using it, so I have to keep on using it of course,” he added.

Recall the 24-year-old, fractured his eye socket during Napoli’s 3-2 defeat at Inter Milan on November 24, 2021.

That was one of many facial fractures he suffered after a clash of heads with Milan Skriniar at the San Siro.

Following that, Osimhen had 18 metal screws and six plaques inserted to stabilise his facial features due to the horror injury.

However, he continues to star for both club and country, leading Napoli to their first Scudetto title after 33 years in the 2022/23 Seria A season.

Osimhen also helped Nigeria qualify for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, scoring a record 10 goals in the qualifiers, and has since made his mark in the Super Eagles’ first outing in the tournament against Equatorial Guinea with a lone goal.
