Hansi Flick to lead Barcelona in El Clasico despite father’s death

Hansi Flick will remain on the touchline for Barcelona during Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid despite the death of his father.

Barcelona confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon and announced that tributes would be paid before the match at the Nou Camp, including a minute’s silence and black armbands worn by players.

Barcelona and Real Madrid pay tribute

In a statement, Barcelona said: “FC Barcelona and the entire blaugrana family wish to send all our love to Hansi Flick after the passing of his father.

“We share in your sorrow and our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.”

Real Madrid also offered condolences to the German coach and his family ahead of the high-profile clash.

The club said: “Real Madrid, its president and its directors deeply regret the death of the father of Hansi Flick.”

Flick eyes another La Liga title

Despite the personal tragedy, Flick is set to oversee one of the biggest matches of Barcelona’s season.

A victory or draw against Real Madrid would secure back-to-back La Liga titles for Barcelona under the German manager.

Since replacing Xavi in 2024, Flick has guided the Catalan club to four trophies, continuing a successful spell at the Nou Camp.
