Hansi Flick set to extend Barcelona stay until 2028 after title-winning campaign

Hansi Flick has confirmed he is ready to sign a contract extension with Barcelona after guiding the club to the La Liga title.
The German coach revealed that an agreement has been reached to keep him at the Catalan club until 2028 following Barcelona’s successful league-winning campaign.
Flick’s future had been the subject of speculation in recent weeks, but the former Bayern Munich manager said he now feels fully settled at the club.
Speaking after Barcelona secured the title, Flick admitted discussions over the extension progressed quickly.
“Has this been announced? I’m sorry, but I’ve had a lot on my mind,” Flick said.

“I’m very grateful to the club for the opportunity to coach until 2028. In recent days, it’s become clear to me that I’m in the right place.”
Flick targets more success
Despite already clinching the league with games remaining, Flick said Barcelona are still motivated to finish the season strongly.
“The goal now is to reach 100 points, and to do that we have to win the three remaining matches and play well,” he said.
The coach also shifted focus toward European ambitions, insisting the team must now aim higher after restoring domestic dominance.
“Now it’s time to keep winning and try again to win the Champions League,” Flick added.
Barcelona’s title-winning campaign has been viewed as a major turnaround after recent seasons marked by inconsistency and financial uncertainty.
Coach praises squad leadership
Flick also highlighted the influence of several senior and young players during the season, praising the leadership shown inside the dressing room.
“There’s Gavi, who, since returning to training, has raised the level of our sessions; he’s the heart of the team,” Flick explained.
He also praised Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araújo and Raphinha for helping maintain standards throughout the campaign.
Reflecting on the season, Flick pointed to injuries suffered by key players, including Lamine Yamal, but said the team responded strongly in both attack and defense.
“We’ve conceded the fewest goals, and nobody expected that,” he said.
