Ghana sent packing in AFCON Group B after dashing away lead, as Egypt leapfrog

Ghana will have a night to forget after dashing away 2-0 lead to draw with Mozambique in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars had a head start in the Monday encounter at Stade Alassane Ouattara, with Jordan Ayew proving why he is in the English topflight.

The Crystal Palace forward scored from the spot in the opening 15 minutes to give his side the lead, before doubling it from the same penalty spot in the second half.

While many Ghanaians were already out celebrating, Mozambique pulled a major upset in the stoppage time, scoring twice within four minutes, to the dismay of the West African nation.

The result saw them swap places with Pharo’s Egypt who leapfrogged by just one point to qualify in Group B.

The Egyptians also had a tough night, giving up their lead against group leaders Cape Verde after a comeback in the stoppage time, but the Blue Sharks wouldn’t go down without a fight.

They pulled a last-minute equalizer through Bryan Teixeira, extending their unbeaten run in the group stage of the tournament.
