Fulham sign Real Madrid star as Iwobi faces fresh midfield competition

Fulham have confirmed the signing of Spanish playmaker Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid, with the Premier League club strengthening its midfield options ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The arrival of the highly-rated midfielder is expected to increase competition for places, with Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi among the players who could face a battle for a starting role.

Fulham announced Palacios’ signing on the club’s official website, adding another creative option as manager Alvaro Arbeloa continues to reshape his squad before the new campaign.

The Spaniard is capable of operating as a central attacking midfielder, a role Iwobi has previously identified as his preferred position despite also featuring on the wings and in deeper midfield roles.

His arrival gives Silva greater depth in the final third and increases competition as Fulham aim to build on last season’s performances.

Iwobi set for battle for starting spot

Iwobi has established himself as one of Fulham’s most reliable performers since joining from Everton, thanks to his versatility, work rate and creativity.

The Nigeria international has featured in multiple positions across midfield and attack, becoming a key player for the London club with his consistent performances and attacking contributions.

While Palacios’ signing presents a new challenge, it also provides Fulham with greater tactical flexibility heading into the new season.
