Francis Nwifuru originally known by birth Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, a Nigerian politician, businessman, and administrator, is now serving as Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly for the second time.

Francis Nwifuru Early Life
Francis Nwifuru was born on February 25, 1975, in Oferekpe Agbaja, Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.
He was raised in a polygamous environment by the well-known Chief and Mrs Nwifuru Nwamkpu family. Hon. Nwifuru’s wife is Chief Uzoamaka Nwifuru. There are five children in the household. Hon. Nwifuru began attending Oferekpe Agbaja Community Primary School in 1991.

In 1999, he switched to Community Secondary School, Nwofe Agbaja, because he was still interested in learning.
His intellectual work was not always straightforward. He only went to school on rare occasions and helped his brothers care for their father’s numerous animals.
Okweru, his loving mother, played a critical part in ensuring that his son received the necessary Western education. He had completed his secondary education with distinction by May or June 2004.
After completing his post-primary schooling, Ogbonna, now known as “Francis,” embarked on a new chapter in his life. He had been baptized, which is the sacrament of Christian initiation.
He had moved in with Chief (Hon.) Boniface U. Ofoke, a man who had committed his entire life to mentoring, educating, and training others, by that time. He had also been a pioneer in the advancement of Western education.
Hon. Nwifuru studied building technology and woodworking at Ebonyi State University in Abakaliki. He has now established himself as a top authority in construction technology and woodworking due to his aptitude and intellect in the industry.
He enrolled at Ebonyi State University to pursue a second law degree. He has elegantly signed off on this degree and has great legal expertise.

Francis Nwifuru Career
He made his first excursion into politics in 2007 when he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly on behalf of his state district.
He was afterwards selected as an ex-officio state executive member for Ebonyi State by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In his second effort, in March 2011, he was successful in electing the representative for the Izzi West Constituency to the Ebonyi State House of Assembly.
During that period, he was also the head of the House Committee on Lands, Survey, Urban Development, and Environment, as well as the deputy chief whip.
He was re-elected in 2015, becoming the Assembly’s fifth speaker. The only member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly to have served as Speaker twice was re-elected to the same position in 2019.
In 2020, he was appointed National Vice Chairman of the South East Conference of State Legislatures in Nigeria. Nwifuru was the APC’s nominee for governor of Ebonyi in 2023, and he received 199,131 votes from the state’s 13 local governments.
Controversy
The incoming governor was allegedly held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in March 2016.
He, though, denied the charge. Nwifuru stressed that he had just accepted an invitation to attend the EFCC’s South-East zonal headquarters in Enugu.
