FG declares Wednesday, Thursday public holiday for Eid-el Kabir celebration

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate this year’s Eid-el Kabir celebrations.
Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, made the declaration on behalf of the government in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja yesterday.
The minister stated that “The declaration affirms the federal government’s profound respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims who join the global Islamic community in observing the sacred occasion.”
While conveying the government’s warm congratulations to Muslim believers at home and abroad, Dr Tunji-Ojo observed that the festival has deep spiritual importance based on sacrifice, obedience, and compassion.
The minister also asked citizens to use the two-day holiday for prayer and serious meditation, asking for divine guidance as the country seeks long-term peace, security, and economic development.
He went on to say that the administration wished all Muslims a calm and joyful celebration in the spirit of shared humanity, fraternity, and nationalism.
