Fela Kuti, Sade Adu earn global recognition with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction

Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti and soul legend Sade Adu have been inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, further cementing their legacy in global music history.

The announcement was made during an episode of American Idol by Lionel Richie and Ryan Seacrest.

“Fela is being honoured for laying the foundation of Afrobeat, while Sade Adu is recognised for her enduring influence on global music,” organisers said, highlighting the duo’s lasting impact across genres and generations.

The induction comes barely two months after Kuti was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, making him the first African artist to receive the honour.

Known for blending traditional African rhythms with jazz and funk, Fela’s influence continues to shape modern Afrobeats and global sound.
