EPL: Tottenham climb out of drop zone with Aston Villa win

Tottenham Hotspur moved out of the Premier League relegation zone after a crucial 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, boosting Roberto De Zerbi’s survival push.

Fast start sets the tone

West Ham United’s defeat at Brentford on Saturday opened the door, and Spurs capitalised with one of their most complete performances of the season.

They overcame injuries to key forwards Xavi Simons and Dominic Solanke, carrying momentum from their recent win at Wolves to establish a two-goal lead before half-time.

Conor Gallagher opened the scoring after 12 minutes with a precise low strike from distance, marking his first goal since joining from Atletico Madrid. Spurs continued to press, with Joao Palhinha hitting the post shortly after.

The second goal arrived in the 25th minute, as Richarlison headed home from a cross delivered by Mathys Tel.

Villa rotation falls short

Villa manager Unai Emery made seven changes following their Europa League semi-final first-leg defeat to Nottingham Forest, a decision that impacted performance levels.

The hosts struggled to match Spurs’ intensity, producing a subdued display despite their strong league position.

Late response not enough

Substitute Emi Buendia pulled one back in stoppage time, but the response came too late to alter the outcome.

The result lifts Spurs one point above West Ham United with three matches remaining, strengthening their bid to avoid relegation.
