EPL: Palmer ends drought as Chelsea see off Everton

Chelsea returned to winning ways with a controlled 2-0 win over Everton at Stamford Bridge, easing pressure on head coach Enzo Maresca and trimming the gap to league leaders Arsenal to five points.

The result snapped the Blues’ four-match winless run and delivered a timely boost ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.

Palmer strikes on home return

Cole Palmer opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing calmly after being released by Pedro Neto.

It was the England international’s first goal in three months, his first start at Stamford Bridge since August, and his first appearance there since recovering from a broken toe.

The goal settled Chelsea, who began to dictate possession and tempo against an Everton side offering little attacking threat.

Gusto doubles the advantage

Chelsea extended their lead just before half-time when Neto again proved decisive, driving in a low cross for Malo Gusto to tap home from close range.

The second goal effectively killed the contest, returning the Blues to top-four position.

Professional closeout and record maintained

Chelsea created further openings after the break, with Alejandro Garnacho spurning two presentable chances to add gloss to the scoreline.

Everton rarely threatened, allowing Maresca’s side to manage the game efficiently.

Everton remain winless at Stamford Bridge in over 30 years, and their boss David Moyes winless in his last 20 games in West London.
