EPL: Mudryk strike insufficient for Chelsea as London derby against Arsenal ends 2-2

Mudryk scored a strike against Arsenal's goalkeeper David Raya, who was off his line.

Mykhailo Mudryk was on target for Chelsea during the club’s Saturday evening derby against London rivals Arsenal.

Mudryk scored a strike against Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya, who was off his line. The unexpected goal lifted the roof at Stamford Bridge, with achos of celebration.

The goal came as he attempted to send in a cross from the left-hand side of the pitch, with Raya staying out of position.

The goal has now raised questions about Arsenal’s goalkeeper situation, as Raya is currently locked in a battle with Aaron Ramsdale for the No.1 shirt at the club.

Chelsea took an early 2-0 lead in the game, with a penalty from Cole Palmer 15 minutes into the first half, and Mudryk’s contribution just three minutes into the second half.

Mudryk, 21, played a role in the first goal when his header was adjudged to have been handballed by William Saliba, leading to a penalty converted by Palmer.

Mudryk’s goal against Arsenal marks his second of the season, following his first strike for Chelsea against Fulham earlier this month.

Recall that Mudryk nearly joined Arsenal in January, but Chelsea secured his signing in a deal worth up to £88 million.

His start in the Premier League had been challenging, with no goals in his first season for Chelsea.

However, under the guidance of manager Mauricio Pochettino, he has shown significant improvement in the current season, contributing to goals and securing two for himself so far.

Despite Chelsea’s early goals, the match ended 2-2 due to late goals from Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.
