EPL: Jadon Sancho slams Erik ten Hag, says he’s been a ‘scapegoat’

Manchester United star Jadon Sancho has taken a swipe at Erik ten Hag over the reason he gave for him not being included in the squad that suffered a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, September 3.

Jadon Sancho was absent for United’s agonising 3-1 defeat at Arsenal and manager Erik ten Hag told reporters that the winger had failed to reach the level he demands. 18-year-old midfielder Dan Gore and Hannibal Mejbri were both picked over Sancho.

Ten Hag said;

“Jadon was [absent] on his performance on the training. We didn’t select him. You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices on the frontline, so for this game he wasn’t selected.”

Reacting to the claim, Sancho accused Ten Hag of making him a “scapegoat” for too long even though all he wants to do is play football.

“Please don’t believe everything you read! I will not allow people saying things that is completely untrue, I have conducted myself in training very well this week.

“I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t go into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!

“All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what.”

Sancho has struggled for consistent form since moving to Old Trafford for Borussia Dortmund for £73m in 2021. The England international has scored 12 goals in 82 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.
