EPL: Fulham completes signing of Super Eagle’s Calvin Bassey

English club, Fulham have announced the signing of Super Eagles centre-back Calvin Bassey from Ajax.

The former Rangers defender left Ajax after just 12 months following a nod to a deal with the London club after weeks of speculation.

The 23-year-old signed contract which will run till the summer of 2027, with a club option to extend by a further year. The deal is reportedly worth 22.5m euros (£19.3m).

Commenting on his move to Fulham, Calvin Bassey told the club website;

“I know how big of a club Fulham is. They always have quality players, they’re playing in the Premier League, the best league in the world, so I didn’t have to think much about it.

“It’s a London club as well, so it’s always a plus to go home! I’m happy it’s all done now and I can just focus on the football and help the team build on last season, when they did amazing.”

“He’s a young and versatile defender; a homegrown player who developed at Leicester City‘s academy before moving on to play for Rangers and then for Ajax, as well as Nigeria’s national team.

“Calvin’s been a top target for us, so we’re all delighted that he’s committed for the long term with Fulham, and we’re looking forward to watching him progress. Come on Fulham!”

Bassey, an Italy-born Londoner, came through the ranks at Leicester before joining Rangers in 2020. Following a successful two-year spell in which he won a league title and reached the Europa League final, he moved to Ajax for an initial 23m euros (£17.2m)

He has 10 caps for Nigeria and made his Super Eagles debut in a World Cup qualifier last year.
