EPL: Bale takes cheeky dig at Arsenal over Brennan Johnson

Wales legend, Gareth Bale has thrown his weight behind Brennan Johnson who recently moved to Tottenham from Nottingham Forest instead of Arsenal.

Wales captain and former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey had already described Johnson’s potential as “scary” but admitted that he wished the forward hadn’t signed for Tottenham.

Re-echoing Ramsey’s praise for Johnson while talking to Sky Sports at the PGA Championship Celebrity Pro-Am at Wentworth, Bale said;

“He’s doing well, he’s doing well. I think the more he plays now in the top flight, the better he’ll get. Like you said, the sky is the limit.

“I think as long as he’s playing football and improving, it’s good for Tottenham and it’s good for Wales also.”

Bale who also played for Tottenham took a dig at Arsenal in reaction to Ramsey wishing that Brennan Johnson didn’t sign for the North London Club.

He stated that he is happy with Johnson’s choice of Premier League club, adding that it is “Better than Arsenal.”

Bale also shared his views on new Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou, under whom the North Londoners have made an impressive start.

He said;

“It’s great to see, I think they’ve got their style back, that’s something the club was obviously looking for as well, seeing how he performed at Celtic.

“A great start, hopefully there’s still more to come from the team. They’ll obviously just keep getting better and better with the new manager and a new kind of style.

“Hopefully they can put themselves up there and give themselves a chance.”

Spurs brought the forward to the Lane from Nottingham Forest in a £47.5million deadline day deal. Johnson scored eight goals and registered three assists in 33 league appearances during his debut season in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old will be making his Tottenham debut this weekend as Spurs welcome Sheffield United to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Spurs have started life brightly under new manager Ange Postecoglou, picking up 10 points from four games. They have scored the second-most goals in the league so far despite losing record goal-scorer Harry Kane in the summer. Postecoglou’s side has also managed to register a big win over Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.
