EPL: Aston Villa completes signing of Omar Khedr

Aston Villa have announced the signing of winger Omar Khedr from ZED FC on a ‘long-term deal’, which will come into effect next summer when the player turns 18 years old.

The Premier League has been quite active in the current transfer window by adding the likes of Pau Torres, Youri Tielemans and Moussa Diaby to their squad.

On the back of long-term injuries sustained by Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendia, manager Unai Emery will now need to replace those players.

Khedr is considered to be a coup for Villa who have secured the player ahead of competition from elsewhere, and is a nod to their future plans as the partnership they’ve entered into with ZED bears fruit for the first time.

Omar Khedr who was shown around Aston Villa facilities, met the current senior squad before returning to his homeland after penning down his signature to a deal with the English club.

“Aston Villa is pleased to announce the signing of exciting Egyptian talent, Omar Khedr, from Zed FC.

“The 17-year-old winger has put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement with the club and will join officially on 1st July 2024 when he turns 18, signing a long-term deal.

“Khedr’s arrival marks the first signing since Aston Villa and Zed FC entered a collaboration agreement earlier this year.

“Highly sought after, Khedr’s signature is a significant coup for Aston Villa’s Academy, with the Egyptian Under-17 international attracting attention and admiring glances from clubs across the continent and further afield.

“Khedr spent time earlier this month at Bodymoor Heath being shown around the High Performance Centre, meeting Unai Emery’s first-team stars as well as club legend and fellow Egyptian, Ahmed Elmohamady.”
