“Either you support APC or leave Kuje” — Kuje Area Council Chairman issues threat

The Kuje Area Council Chairman, Samuel Shekwolo, has stirred controversy after telling residents who do not support the All Progressives Congress to leave the council ahead of the 2027 elections.

Shekwolo made the remark in a video shared on social media on Tuesday while speaking to his supporters and constituents.

He linked his position to what he described as the developmental projects being delivered in Kuje by President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

According to the council chairman, residents benefiting from the administration’s projects should not turn around to vote against the APC.

‘It’s either you are with us’

Shekwolo openly declared that residents who opposed the APC had no place in the council.

“I have said in my area council, it’s either you are doing APC or leave the area council; I’m not hiding that. With confidence, I’m saying it.

“You know why, I cannot have President and Minister doing what they are doing and on the day of election, you will want to match me. It’s either you are with us, or you are out,” he said.

His comments have attracted attention as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement has also raised questions about political tolerance and the right of residents to freely support parties of their choice.

Remark follows Osun political controversy

Shekwolo’s comments come against the backdrop of a separate controversy involving Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District.

Fadahunsi faced criticism after a video circulated showing him addressing APC supporters in Ilesa ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

He was allegedly heard threatening to kill members of the Accord Party who were seen in Ilesa before the election.

The remarks prompted condemnation from political actors and civil society organisations. Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke also called for the senator’s arrest and investigation.

Fadahunsi subsequently denied threatening violence against Accord members.

He explained that he was referring to defeating the party through votes rather than physically attacking its supporters.

The senator was later invited and questioned by the Osun State Police Command over the controversial statement.

Shekwolo’s political background

The Kuje chairman’s latest remarks have added to concerns about inflammatory political statements as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.

Shekwolo emerged as chairman of Kuje Area Council on the APC platform during the February 2026 FCT Area Council election.

He polled 17,269 votes to win the election, according to results announced by the returning officer.
