“Dem no get” — Woman recounts how N1.2m job ended after company promised N93k

A woman has recounted how a seemingly attractive Head of Content job with a monthly salary of N1.2m ended abruptly after she discovered unusual operations within the organisation.

According to her account, the job appeared to be a dream opportunity, with a short commute, a 9am to 5pm schedule and a salary of N1.2m net monthly.

However, she soon discovered that she was the only person in the content department, meaning she had effectively become her own boss.

She discovered company was developing 63 products

The woman said that two days after resuming, she discovered that the organisation had been set up mainly to pursue venture capital funding and was developing about 63 products simultaneously.

She also claimed that the company had a woman trading forex on its behalf, with a target of generating $100,000 every month.

She said her concerns grew when the forex trader reportedly began asking her for transport fare.

The woman later said the company asked her to help build a podcast and studio. After she submitted a detailed list of equipment and costs, she was reportedly told to leave.

She said, “Na me Dey produce the studio equipment?”

Content department eventually shut down

According to her, she asked the human resources department why she was being asked to leave, but the HR representative allegedly said she did not know.

The woman said the company later offered to pay her only N93,000 for the work and stress, but even that amount was allegedly not available.

She added that the organisation eventually sacked everyone, while the last employee remaining reportedly went six months without receiving a salary.

The account has sparked discussion about workplace red flags, startup funding and the importance of understanding a company’s operations before accepting an attractive job offer.
