Chelsea 3-1 Real Sociedad: Rogers scores on debut as Joao Pedro strikes twice

Morgan Rogers marked his first appearance for Chelsea with a goal as the Blues ended pre-season with a 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday.

The British-record signing opened the scoring after just 10 minutes, converting from close range to give the home side an ideal start in Xabi Alonso’s first home match as Chelsea manager.

Joao Pedro then took centre stage after the break, scoring twice to secure victory and finish pre-season with a strong attacking performance.

Rogers makes instant Chelsea impact

Chelsea started with a back three for the third consecutive match under Alonso, with Rogers and fellow debutant Maxence Lacroix handed their first opportunities to impress the new manager.

Rogers needed only 10 minutes to make his mark, finishing a straightforward chance to put Chelsea ahead.

The hosts struggled to maintain their early momentum, however, as Sociedad grew into the game and began creating opportunities.

Robert Sanchez made several saves before Jon Mikel Aramburu produced an excellent volley to level the contest before half-time.

Alonso kept his side unchanged after the interval and Chelsea responded immediately.

Joao Pedro seals pre-season win

Joao Pedro restored Chelsea’s advantage just two minutes after the restart, heading home a cross from Reece James.

The Brazilian forward then completed his double late in the match with a composed finish, taking his pre-season tally to seven goals.

His performance provided another positive sign for Alonso ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Fulham.

The result also offered Rogers an encouraging start to his Chelsea career after the club made a major investment to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez was introduced in the second half and received a mixed reception from the home supporters. Some fans booed the midfielder, while others responded by cheering and singing his name amid reported interest from Manchester City.
