Champions League: Ademola Lookman to start in Atletico XI against Arsenal

Ademola Lookman is expected to return straight into the starting lineup for Atletico Madrid ahead of their UEFA Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Arsenal.
The Nigerian forward has resumed full training after missing Atletico’s last two matches and is now in line to feature from the start at the Metropolitano.
His return comes at a critical moment for Diego Simeone’s side as they push to reach a fourth Champions League final.
Injury setbacks force Atletico reshuffle
Atletico head into the fixture without several key players, with Nicolas Gonzalez and Pablo Barrios both ruled out through injury. Defender Jose Maria Gimenez is also unavailable, limiting Simeone’s options.

However, the return of Lookman and David Hancko has provided a timely boost. Spanish reports suggest both players are in contention to start, although there remains some uncertainty in defence, with Robin Le Normand also pushing for inclusion.
Further adjustments are expected, with Marcos Llorente likely to revert to right-back, allowing Johnny Cardoso to partner Koke Resurreccion in midfield. In goal, Jan Oblak is set to retain his place ahead of Juan Musso.
Arsenal dealing with key absences
Arsenal also face selection challenges, with Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber ruled out, while Mikel Merino remains unavailable.
Manager Mikel Arteta is expected to rely on Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard in attack, with Viktor Gyokeres leading the line.
With both teams impacted by injuries, Lookman’s return could prove decisive as Atletico look to take an advantage into the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.
