Cameroon becomes first African team to beat Brazil but crashes out of World Cup

Cameroon claimed a memorable 1-0 victory over World Cup favorites, Brazil, in their final Group G match at the Lusail Stadium on Friday, December 2.

Vincent Aboubakar was on hand to score a dramatic late winner for Cameroon. Aboubakar, who had come in to captain Rigobert Song’s team, connected with a cross from substitute Jerome Ngom Mbekeli to break the deadlock in the 92nd minute.

He was sent off for removing his shirt in the wild celebrations that followed, having already been cautioned.

Cameroon who became the first African team to defeat Brazil, crashed out of the tournament as they finished third on four points, two points below second-placed Switzerland, who defeated Serbia 3-2.

Brazil, who had already qualified, finished on top on goal difference with six points and will face South Korea in the last 16. Switzerland who finished second in the group will play against Portugal.

Aboubakar also made history as he became the second player to score and get sent off in a World Cup match after Zinedine Zidane in 2006 final.
