Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang (born March 12, 1965) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who has been the current governor of Plateau State since 2023. He previously served as chairman of the Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State. Mutfwang was sworn in as governor on May 29, 2023.
Early Life
Caleb Mutfwang was born March 12, 1965, in Wussasa, Zaria. He began his schooling at LEA Primary School, Ampang-West, Mangu Local Government Area, from 1973 to 1977. He then attended Boys Secondary School, Gindiri, where he graduated in 1982.
After working briefly for the Federal Office of Statistics and the former Nigerian Bank for Commerce and Industry (NBCI), he attended the School of Preliminary Studies in Keffi from 1983 to 1984.
He was admitted to the University of Jos in 1984, where he studied law and graduated in 1988. He then attended Nigerian Law School and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar on December 14, 1989, as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court.
Mutfwang was chosen President of the Nigerian Christian Corpses’ Fellowship in Kaduna State while serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), demonstrating early leadership qualities.
He also graduated from Hawaii’s prestigious Haggai Institute for Leadership Development. In addition to providing legal services to individuals, corporations, federal ministries, international agencies, and governments, I sit on the boards of several enterprises.
Served in a range of leadership roles, ranging from secondary school to the NYSC. Held various leadership positions within the church and community, including membership on the Karl Kumm University Endowment Fund Committee, which was founded by the Church of Christ in Nations.

Caleb Mutfwang began his legal career shortly after being admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1989. He joined the Kaduna-based law firm BYOMA, ICHABA & CO (Fidelity Chambers) in 1990 and worked there until 1995, earning considerable legal expertise.
He founded his law practice, Caleb Mutfwang & Co., in 1996 and registered it with the Corporate Affairs Commission. His reputation as a skilled and dedicated lawyer continued to rise.
Mutfwang worked for Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Ltd. in Kaduna from 2002 to 2004, rising to the level of Deputy General Manager, Legal and Secretarial Services and serving as the company’s Secretary.
His responsibilities included handling legal matters and maintaining business compliance. He is affiliated with various professional organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)—Section on Business Law, the International Bar Association (IBA), the Nigerian Christian Lawyers’ Fellowship, the Christian Legal Society of America, and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
Mutfwang is also a graduate of the Haggai Institute for Leadership Development in Hawaii, USA, which honed his leadership and administrative skills.
His career demonstrates a mix of legal excellence, corporate leadership, and public service, creating the groundwork for his eventual transition into active politics.

Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is married to Helen Ingbo Goldie, a lawyer in Bayelsa State. Helen was born in 1967 to John and Juliet Goldie in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The pair married on February 13, 1993, and they have three children: Timothy, Nanbam, and Enoch.
Helen Mutfwang, the First Lady of Plateau State, has been actively interested in social issues. In January 2025, she helped Samuel Atanu’s family, who had quadruplets and were struggling to pay hospital fees.
In July 2024, she also expressed alarm over the state’s escalating drug misuse rates, calling for preventive measures and youth involvement programs. Governor Mutfwang publicly praised his wife, describing her as an exceptional leader and a beacon of moral virtue, on her birthday in August 2024.
