BREAKING: FG offers 30-day petrol discount nationwide through NNPCL

Public transport operators across Nigeria are to receive priority in a 30-day petrol discount programme introduced by the Federal Government (FG) through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The initiative was announced on Thursday by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, during a press briefing in Abuja.

Oyedele explained that the measure was designed to make petrol available to beneficiaries at cost, stressing that it should not be regarded as a reinstatement of fuel subsidy.
Government denies return of subsidy
According to the minister, the discount will initially run for 30 days, with public transporters given priority nationwide.
“We are offering a discount on petrol dispensed by NNPC Limited for the next 30 days in the first instance with priority for public transporters nationwide. So, it’s not a subsidy; the government is just saying we sell to you at cost,” Oyedele said.
The announcement comes against the backdrop of differences in petrol pump prices at NNPC stations across the country.
The latest reported NNPC price list puts the product at N1,355 per litre in Lagos and Rivers, while motorists in Abuja are listed as paying N1,370 per litre.
The government’s latest intervention is therefore expected to provide some relief to public transport operators during the initial 30-day period.
