Barcelona makes Cucurella move after player’s statement

Barcelona are assessing a potential move for Marc Cucurella as part of their summer rebuild, with the Chelsea full-back emerging as a key option under internal review.

The Catalan club are planning targeted reinforcements to strengthen their squad despite domestic success, with priorities identified in central defence and attack.

However, discussions have also extended to the left flank, where uncertainty persists over depth and long-term options.

Cucurella under consideration

According to reports from El Chiringuito, Cucurella has been discussed internally this week as a viable candidate.

The 27-year-old, who previously came through Barcelona’s academy system, is viewed as a player who understands the club’s philosophy and tactical demands.

The Spain international has also indicated openness to a return in the past, admitting during the last international break that it would be difficult to reject an opportunity to rejoin Barcelona if the conditions were right.

Cucurella has spent the last five years in England, moving from Getafe to Brighton before completing a high-profile transfer to Chelsea.

Financial constraints a major factor

Despite the interest, Barcelona’s ability to complete a deal remains uncertain. The club continues to operate under financial limitations, meaning any significant transfer would likely depend on player sales.

Cucurella still has two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, and the London club are expected to demand a fee close to their original €65 million investment. That valuation could prove a major obstacle unless Barcelona generate funds through departures.

With other targets such as Alejandro Grimaldo also under consideration, Barcelona are expected to weigh cost, squad balance and long-term value before making a final decision.
