Babajide Sanwo-Olu CON (born June 25, 1965) is a Nigerian politician who has been the governor of Lagos State since 2019. Sanwo-Olu became governor on the All Progressives Congress platform after winning the APC gubernatorial primaries against then-incumbent governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who had fallen out of favour with his suspected political sponsor. He was the managing director and CEO of Lagos State Property Development Corporation.

Babajide Olajide Sanwo-Olu was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on June 25, 1965. Sanwo-Olu briefly attended Government Demonstration School, Gbaja Surulere, before transferring to Ijebu-Ife Grammar School in Ogun State to complete his secondary school. He holds a BSc in surveying and an MBA from the University of Lagos.
He graduated from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, the London Business School, and the Lagos Business School. He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) and a fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD).
Career
Sanwo-Olu served as treasurer at the erstwhile Lead Merchant Bank from 1994 to 1997 before joining the United Bank for Africa as head of the foreign money market. He later joined First Inland Bank, Plc (now First City Monument Bank) as a deputy general manager and division head. He then became chairman of both Baywatch Group Limited and First Class Group Limited.
Sanwo-Olu’s political career began in 2003, when he was appointed as a special adviser on corporate matters to Femi Pedro, then the deputy governor of Lagos State. He later became interim Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget until 2007, when Governor Bola Tinubu named him Commissioner for Commerce and Industry.
Following the 2007 General Elections, Governor Babatunde Fashola named Sanwo-Olu as Commissioner for Establishments, Training, and Pensions. Sanwo-Olu was appointed Managing Director/CEO of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in 2016.

On September 16, 2018, Sanwo-Olu formally stated his desire to run for governor of Lagos State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), making him a strong competitor to incumbent governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
His statement received support from key stakeholders in Lagos State politics, including the well-known in-house political organization, the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress, the Governor’s Advisory Council, and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly. This would result in the withdrawal of Obafemi Hamzat, who had shown an interest in running for the position.
Sanwo-Olu won the Lagos gubernatorial primary of the All Progressives Congress on October 2, 2018. At the APC flag-off campaign event on January 8, 2019, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and several other political parties expressed support for Sanwo-Olu’s candidature.
In a landslide victory against his major opponent, Jimi Agbaje, Sanwo-Olu was elected governor of Lagos State in the 2019 Lagos State gubernatorial election, conducted on March 9, 2019. He was sworn in as the 15th governor of Lagos State on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) on Lagos Island.
