Arokodare hopes to earn permanent Ajax move after impressive start

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has expressed his desire to remain at Ajax beyond this season, saying he hopes to make his loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers permanent if everything goes according to plan.

The 25-year-old joined the Dutch champions on a season-long loan earlier this summer, with Ajax holding an option to sign him permanently at the end of the agreement.

Arokodare has already made a positive first impression, scoring just 17 minutes into his debut in Ajax’s 3-1 pre-season victory over Volendam.

Striker targets long-term future in Amsterdam

Despite enduring a difficult first campaign at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arokodare believes Ajax offers him an ideal environment to revive his career.

The Nigerian forward said he is focused on performing well and hopes his performance will earn him a long-term stay in Amsterdam.

“I can’t say that yet. Ajax is a great team, but the clubs decide,” Arokodare told Ajax Life.

“The mentality is there, the people are nice, and the supporters are amazing.”

“As a footballer, you want to win and score. If I manage to do that here, naturally I want to stay.”

Fresh opportunity after Wolves struggles

Arokodare arrived at Ajax after a challenging spell in England, where he struggled to establish himself at Wolves during his debut season.

However, the striker has already proven his goalscoring credentials elsewhere in Europe. Before moving to the Premier League, he won the 2024/25 Belgian Pro League Golden Boot after scoring 21 goals in 40 appearances.

He also enjoyed productive spells with Valmiera FC and Amiens SC, building a reputation as a consistent scorer before his move to England.

Although Arokodare remains under contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers until June 2029, a successful campaign in the Eredivisie could convince Ajax to activate the purchase option included in the loan agreement.
