Arbeloa backs Perez after Real Madrid title row claims
Alvaro Arbeloa has strongly backed claims made by Florentino Perez that Real Madrid were “robbed” of multiple La Liga titles, amid ongoing controversy surrounding the Negreira case involving alleged payments linked to former refereeing officials.
The Real Madrid manager aligned himself with the club president’s stance, insisting supporters fully share the belief that Madrid have been treated unfairly over a prolonged period.
Arbeloa’s comments come as Barcelona continue to deny any wrongdoing and have previously indicated they may pursue legal action against Pérez over the allegations.
Strong defense of club position
Arbeloa said any Madrid supporter would support the club’s leadership in its interpretation of recent events in Spanish football.
“Any Real Madrid fan who listened to the president yesterday would agree that he defends the interests of the club’s members,” he said.
Pressed further on Perez’s claim that Madrid were denied up to seven league titles, Arbeloa suggested there were deeper issues within the sport that had yet to be fully exposed.
“Of course. We all know what’s happened over the last 20 years. Surely there are things we don’t know,” he added.
He also argued that Madrid’s stance was about protecting fairness in competition rather than creating conflict with other clubs.
Focus on standards and results
Arbeloa also addressed criticism of Madrid’s recent performances, acknowledging that the club has gone two seasons without a major trophy but rejecting suggestions of institutional decline.
“The double standard has always been there,” he said. “We haven’t gone 50 years without winning anything.”
He defended the club’s long-term competitiveness, pointing to its European success and financial stability despite recent setbacks.
“Real Madrid has been doing many things right for a long time, it’s financially sound, well-managed, with great players,” Arbeloa said.
He added that the club would conduct a summer review to strengthen the squad ahead of the next campaign.
