AFCON 2023: Coach Peseiro unfazed by Super Eagles’ defeat to Guinea
Super Eagles’ head coach Jose Peseiro is unfazed by the team’s 2-0 loss to Guinea in a friendly game in Abu Dhabi.
The friendly against Guinea was Nigeria’s final preparation match before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Reflecting on the match, Peseiro said the result was not the most crucial.
He mentioned that the team experimented with a new system, playing a 3-4-3 formation, and felt the team performed well despite the loss.
“It is important to win, of course, but the game is not crucial because we tried to use a new system. We did well in the first half, despite being down 1-0.
“We missed a penalty and a few clear chances. In the second half, the game was more balanced, and I had to change the system to 4-3-3 to regain control of the midfield,” he added.
While the AFCON starts on Saturday 13 January, the Super Eagles’ first game comes up on the 14th, against Equatorial Guinea.
