Boniface returns to Werder Bremen, eyes late-season comeback

Victor Boniface has rejoined Werder Bremen after completing a key phase of his rehabilitation at Bayer Leverkusen, offering the Bundesliga club a timely boost in their battle to avoid relegation.
The Super Eagles striker has been out for more than three months following knee surgery in January, with earlier indications suggesting he would miss the remainder of the season.
However, his return to Bremen has raised fresh optimism over a possible late involvement before the campaign concludes.
Gradual return to action
Werder Bremen confirmed on Monday that Boniface is now back with the squad, although his reintegration will be handled cautiously.

“Victor will train individually for the entire week initially. Afterwards, he will be carefully reintroduced to team training, so that we hope he can still play this season,” said Peter Niemeyer, the club’s Head of Professional Football.
Boniface joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen last summer but has endured a difficult spell. Prior to his injury, he made 11 league appearances, contributing two assists without scoring.
Despite those numbers, the Nigerian forward retains a strong reputation from his performances in Germany, where he previously established himself as a physically dominant and dynamic attacking option.
His return could provide Bremen with a different dimension in attack as they look to secure vital points in the final stretch of the season.
Currently sitting just above the relegation zone, Bremen face mounting pressure with seven matches remaining.
The club’s survival hopes may hinge on improving their attacking output, an area where Boniface was initially expected to make a significant impact.
While it remains uncertain how quickly he can return to full match fitness, his availability alone represents a positive development.
