2027 Presidential Election: Court clears Jonathan to contest

A Federal High Court in Abuja has permitted former President Goodluck Jonathan to run in the 2027 presidential election.
On Tuesday, Justice Peter Lifu upheld a N20 million fine imposed on the lawyer who filed the case, Johnmary Jideobi.
He imposed a one-million fine on both the plaintiff and the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Justice Lifu also ruled that the lawyer lacked the legal authority to file the complaint because he had not experienced any loss as a result of Jonathan’s presumed intention to run in the next year’s election.
The judge, who stated that a Federal High Court in Yenagoa and an Appeal Court had already ruled that Jonathan was allowed to run, claimed he was bound by the appellate court’s judgment.
He then called the lawyer’s suit “an abuse of the court process” and dismissed it as frivolous.
