2027: Kwankwaso is secretly working for Tinubu — Kano Government alleges

The Kano State Government has alleged that the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, could be indirectly contributing to efforts that may favour President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The allegation was made by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Kano Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday, where he spoke on emerging political alignments and behind-the-scenes manoeuvres ahead of the next election cycle.
According to him, political support for the president may not always be visible, as some actors operate openly while others do so discreetly within the political space.
“There are those who are working for Tinubu openly in the public space, and there are also those who can work for Tinubu behind the scene,” Bature said.
He further argued that Kwankwaso’s political activities could ultimately benefit the president, referencing the 2023 election dynamics.
“I believe whatever Kwankwaso is doing will favour Tinubu at the end of it because Kwankwaso has worked for Tinubu in 2023.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 polls, he added that the ruling party would be more direct in its support for the president, while maintaining that the NNPP leader may still be indirectly aligned in effect.
“In 2027, we are going to work for Tinubu directly and openly as members of the APC, but I believe Kwankwaso is also working for Tinubu behind the scene.”
The comments come amid increasing political speculation and shifting alliances in the build-up to 2027, particularly in Kano State, a key electoral battleground in northern Nigeria.
Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in the Kwankwasiyya political movement, has not issued any public response to the allegation.
