Zadok Yohanna reveals why he joined Brighton over other Premier League giants

Nigeria international hopeful Zadok Yohanna has revealed that Brighton & Hove Albion’s track record of developing young players played a major role in his decision to join the Premier League club despite interest from several other teams.

The 18-year-old winger recently completed his move from Swedish side AIK Stockholm after attracting attention with a series of impressive performances during the 2026 season.

Brighton moved quickly to secure the youngster as part of the club’s long-term recruitment strategy focused on emerging talents with high potential.

Premier League appeal

Speaking to Brighton’s official website, Yohanna said his familiarity with English football helped him identify the right destination for his development.

“I watch Premier League games a lot, so I know the teams that utilize young players, and Brighton is one of them.”

The teenager’s rise in Sweden drew interest from clubs across Europe after he showcased his pace, attacking ability and confidence in one-on-one situations.

Brighton have built a reputation in recent years for giving opportunities to young players and helping them progress into regular first-team football, making the club an attractive option for promising talents.

Manager’s message influenced move

Yohanna also highlighted the role played by Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler in convincing him to make the switch to England.

According to the Nigerian winger, a conversation with the German coach reinforced his belief that Brighton was the best environment for his growth.

“He urged me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have and I really want to win trophies with the team,” Yohanna said.

The youngster admitted that leaving AIK Stockholm was not an easy decision after enjoying a positive spell with the Swedish club.

“I had a lot of good people around me who took care of me. Everyone loved me, so it was difficult to leave,” he added.

Yohanna is expected to continue his development under Brighton’s system as the club gradually integrates him into its plans.

His arrival adds to Brighton’s growing collection of young prospects as they look to strengthen their squad for the future.
