“Your wife is not my friend” – Man sparks debate over boundaries with friend’s wife
A Nigerian man has sparked mixed reactions online after sharing an uncomfortable situation involving his friend’s wife and the boundaries he maintains when visiting their home.
According to the man, his friend’s wife has complained that she feels embarrassed whenever he comes around because of how he behaves during conversations with her husband.
He explained that anytime he is discussing with his friend and the wife comes out to join the conversation, he immediately stops talking, changes the topic, or finds an excuse to leave.
Clarifying his actions, the man said it has nothing to do with disrespect or dislike, but rather with maintaining clear boundaries and showing respect to his friend.
In his words, he said:
“My friend’s wife is not my friend. The only thing that holds me and her together is greeting. Just because you are my friend doesn’t make your wife my friend.
Anytime she wants to join our conversation, I stop talking or leave. I’m not embarrassing her. I’m respecting my friend. I know my place. It’s boundary and discipline.”
He added that he sees no reason to become overly familiar with his friend’s wife, stressing that such closeness often leads to disrespect.
However, the woman reportedly interprets his behaviour as awkward and embarrassing, especially since she feels excluded whenever he withdraws from the conversation.
The story has since sparked heated debates online with widespread reactions.
